May Queen Very late keeping extremely crunchy apple. Little information available from my books, first
recorded in 1888, origin Worcestershire. We have one specimen only so just for exhibition and genetic
stock. A good flavoured very crunchy late keeping apple. Julia likes it and we will be grafting some
more. Edward Bunyard wrote 'For the crunchers, whose youthful band I am still proud to join upon
occasion, there is May Queen, crisp and crackling, with a savour of nuts or almost of the earth in its
yellow flesh...'
