Kidd's Orange Red, one of the best all round dessert apples-great flavour, medium keeper, heavy cropper, looks good. This picture shows the extensive irregular russeting which is said to be the reason why this apple never became a  commercial success. Incredibly, while I was working on this page listening to the radio, an item mentioned that Prince Charles's Duchy of Cornwall organic carrots have been turned down by several supermarkets because they are not shiny enough.
